Cylinder Heads: Custom Rebuild Versus Exchange
Cylinder heads play a fundamental role in extending the service for the top end of your engine. Proper machining, coupled with new valvetrain parts replacement, produces a head that performs better and more reliably.
Custom machining your cylinder heads (versus exchanging with an OEM program) has benefits that give you more control of how your engine is built and expected to run. Proper machining of the head casting reduces gasket leaks, valve failures, and exhaust leaks. Machining the manifold side of each casting as a matched set eliminates associated broken exhaust bolts, manifold fatigue, and exhaust leaks.
Simply put, custom machining the cylinder head and installing all new replacement parts gives you a cylinder head that will outperform any OEM exchange cylinder head. You avoid reused parts, variable machining from casting to casting, and accepting a core that might have been abused in its past service life.
