<p>One of the many things that sets B&#038;G Machine apart from others in our industry is our continuing investment in advanced technology that helps us deliver superior results to our customers.</p>
<p>In 2009 B&#038;G became the first to install a computerized balancing system complete with custom bob weights and tooling allowing us to test and balance crankshafts with unmatched precision.</p>

<p>This system, along with the experienced team of technicians here at B&#038;G, has also allowed us to pioneer the development of new reconditioning and re-manufacturing techniques. Crankshafts with damaged or missing counterweights, counterweight pad fretting and other problems that might have once been considered total losses can now often be restored, reducing downtime and saving our customers dollars in the process.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s a new year and with it we&#8217;ve got a lot of exciting stuff going on here at B&#038;G Machine. If you haven&#8217;t been able to keep up on all the latest, last month <a haref="http://www.bandgmachine.com/news/news-releases/bg-machine-adds-sixth-block-machining-center/" title="B&#038;G adds 6th lock Machining Center">we added a 6th block machining center</a> capable of handling 4,000-plus HP engines, making us one of just a handful of industrial diesel reman facilities anywhere the world with this kind of technology and capacity.</p>
<p>A few weeks ago we also <a href="http://www.bandgmachine.com/news/in-the-news/photos-from-the-how-its-made-shoot/" title="How it Made Film Creww shooting at B&#038;G Machine">played host to a film crew</a> from the Discovery Channel&#8217;s popular <em>How It&#8217;s Made</em> series for a couple of days while they shot an episode on what it takes to teardown and re-build a Cat 3516 from the ground up. The episode isn&#8217;t scheduled to air until this summer, but if you&#8217;d like to watch a mini version, we&#8217;ve got a timelapse video of our guys taking a 3524 from block to built in just over 120 seconds. &raquo; <a href="http://www.bandgmachine.com/videos/video-building-a-3524/" title="timelapse video of a Cat 3524 diesel build">Click here to watch the video</a>.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In mid-December 2011, a film crew from Discovery TV&#8217;s Science Channel came to the B&amp;G Machine facilities to film an episode of the network&#8217;s popular <a href="http://science.discovery.com/tv/how-its-made/">How It&#8217;s Made</a> series.</p>
<p>With cameras rolling, over a two day period we took them through a complete reman of a Cat 3516 engine from top to bottom. Now that the filming is done it&#8217;s back to Discovery Channel&#8217;s studios for editing and voiceover to complete the episode, which is expected to air during the new season in the summer of 2012.</p>
<p>While, the air date is still six months off, we took a lot of photos of the shoot that we&#8217;d like to share with you now. (Once we&#8217;ve got an air date for the episode we&#8217;ll be sure to let you know.) Enjoy!</p>

<p><strong>SEATTLE</strong> – Large industrial diesel engine rebuild specialist, B&#038;G Machine, Inc. announced today that it has added another block machining center to it&#8217;s state of the art engine remanufacturing facilities in Seattle, Washington. The new machining center &#8212; the company&#8217;s sixth &#8212; is capable of performing precision block work on the monster-sized 4,000 horsepower engines commonly used in the mining and oil and gas production sectors.</p>

<p>&#8220;Rapid growth in the North American markets and increasing demand for our big engine reman services prompted us to add capacity,&#8221; said B&#038;G Machine vice president, Johnny Bianchi. &#8220;With the new machining center we&#8217;ll be able to eliminate potential shop bottlenecks and build in redundancy to help reduce costs and overall cycle times.&#8221;</p>
<p>B&#038;G&#8217;s new block machining center will be dedicated to machining main tunnel bores and lower end block work on some of the world&#8217;s biggest diesels. With it, the engines &#8212; some twin turbo-charged mammoths larger than a compact car &#8212; will receive computerized precession machining measured in fractions of a millimeter ensuring long, problem-free operational lives in the field.</p>
<p>&#8220;One of the things that has made us a leader is our continuing investment in the best equipment available,&#8221; Bianchi said. &#8220;This new center is part of that legacy.&#8221;</p>

<p>Cylinder heads play a fundamental role in extending the service for the top end of your engine. Proper machining, coupled with new valvetrain parts replacement, produces a head that performs better and more reliably.</p>
<p>Custom machining your cylinder heads (versus exchanging with an OEM program) has benefits that give you more control of how your engine is built and expected to run. Proper machining of the head casting reduces gasket leaks, valve failures, and exhaust leaks. Machining the manifold side of each casting as a matched set eliminates associated broken exhaust bolts, manifold fatigue, and exhaust leaks.</p>
<p>Simply put, custom machining the cylinder head and installing all new replacement parts gives you a cylinder head that will outperform any OEM exchange cylinder head. You avoid reused parts, variable machining from casting to casting, and accepting a core that might have been abused in its past service life.</p>
